NAEB supports orphans

Authorities at the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) say plans are in advanced stages to construct houses for selected Genocide orphans in Masaka, Kicukiro District, and contribute towards building of Gikondo memorial site. This was announced during a memorial service by NAEB staff for former employees of Ocir Café and Ocir Thé, who were killed in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.The last Friday event involved a visit to Gikondo memorial site, home to about 2000 Genocide victims, and night vigil held at NAEB offices in Gikondo, Kigali City.It was preceded by laying of the foundation stone at the construction site donated by Kicukiro district in Rusheshe, Masaka sector. NAEB’s Chairman, Alex Kanyankole, noted that it was everybody’s responsibility to protect memorial sites, according to a statement sent to The New Times.“This memorial site belongs to us all; that is why we should build and protect it in honour of the victims,” he said. About Rwf30m will be spent on the projects.The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Erneste Ruzindaza, stressed the need to support survivors.
