Women empowerment showcased in the “Beauty “of Rwanda

Editor,I read with keen interest the article titled “ Proprietor of Rwanda’s first Beauty school speaks about her journey “ in The New Times of June 22.It is very encouraging to see how Alphonsine Niyigena, the owner of Universal Beauty Academy, has carved a niche for herself in the business of a beauty school.Ms Niyigena has an impressive academic background, with a Bachelors in Economics from Kigali Independent University and a Masters in Finance at Maastricht School of Business in the Netherlands.This dynamic lady was the first Vice Chairperson of the Private Sector Federation and is also the Vice Chairperson of the East African Business Council. She even holds positions in several financial institutions.One must remember, of course, that it is the Government of Rwanda which encourages and nurtures the latent talent in women and then empowers them to perform and excel in their respective areas of specialisation.Women empowerment has, once again, been well showcased in the “beauty” of Rwanda, just as it has been witnessed in the past with several other rising Rwandan women in various areas. The illustrious and hard-working women of Rwanda have shown the world they are second to none!Clarence Fernandes
