When egos affect clear judgment

I have totally failed to figure out what men really want when it comes to having a successful woman. Most complain about girls de-toothing them and of how they cannot settle with girls who entirely live off them like leeches.When a girl demands for money to go for a hair-do or shopping spree simply because she can’t afford, then she is a de-toother—a high risk for long-term relationships. However, the situation of Henry, one acquaintance, is a different one altogether. He is frustrated about the fact that his pretty girlfriend, Brenda, is excessively successful—a factor that makes him feel useless and powerless in their relationship.According to Henry, Brenda is the kind who prefers to clear her own bill during their coffee, lunch and dinner dates. She drives a Mercedes Benz, lives in a posh house that she built through her own sweat and earns a six-digit salary.Henry describes her as loving, humble, kind and intelligent even though she is annoyingly independent and successful.“She isn’t like other girls who you can appease with gifts and surprises because she has seen it all, been there and done that. She never gets amused with any gifts though she will be courteous enough to offer a cold thank you. She has never even borrowed money from me for all the two years we’ve been dating,” Henry says.Henry is not different from some men who desist from interacting with intelligent and successful women. Usually, these very people also despise women who are dependent on them. This however shouldn’t be the case.Society today has changed and unlike olden traditions and beliefs, women too have a say in shaping their own lives. A woman’s success is no longer determined by how submissive or dependent she is to her ‘better-half’. Times have changes, in fact decades have passed by and independent women have walked this earth. Another chauvinist statement I received from a different source, Richard, is that that he can’t dare to date a woman who is more successful and more educated than him. He says, ‘these women are likely to step on men’s feet and act superior over them.’This is a classic case of how ego’s affect the clear judgment However, this should not be the case. Not every successful woman is proud, arrogant and disrespectful to their spouses. Unlike the commonly heard stereotypes, surprisingly most successful and educated women are down to earth if you get to know them well. It’s time that we got over these 19th century stereotypes against women. Today’s confident, successful and independent women are more than just a mental formula set by ancient ideologues and fueled by insecure chauvinists.
