The Office of the Prosecutor General is to carry out DNA test to ascertain whether a city Pastor, Luis Empo Mbayi, fathered the baby of a 16-year old girl. Mbayi is a Senior Pastor of Eglise Betania in Kimicanga, a Kigali City suburb. This was confirmed by the Deputy Prosecutor General Alphonse Hitiyaremye following a dispute between the pastor and a 16-year old member of his congregation who alleges to have been raped and subsequently impregnated by the former. DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, contains the genetic instructions and hereditary material in humans also found in almost all other organisms. “We have the case and we are going to carry out paternity tests,” Hitiyaremye said. The young mother walked to police last year in October claiming to have been raped by Mbayi. When contacted, the pastor said he knew the girl as one of his congregation but denied having had an affair with her, saying he would also wait for the DNA for proof. “I know this girl, I used to see her in the church, actually she stays near the church but I did not have any relationship with her,” Mbayi said during an interview. He claimed to have been framed by some of his colleagues at the church. The main role of DNA molecules is the long-term storage of information. Nearly every cell in a person’s body has the same DNA and is located in the cell nucleus. A genealogical DNA test examines the nucleotides for genetic genealogy purposes intended only to give genealogical information. Ends
