BY KIM KAMASA Sixteen players have been summoned for residential training as the national volleyball teams starts preparations for the Nations Cup slated for September in Pretoria, South Africa. According to the team assistant coach who also doubles as federation technical director Emmanuel Ndungutse, the first of four residential training phases is scheduled to start on July 3-7 at Amahoro national stadium indoor courts. Newly crowned national league champions APR Volleyball Club are the biggest contributor with nine players, followed by the dethroned champions UNR with four. Both Kigali Volleyball Club and Groupe Scolaire Officiale de Butare have two and one players respectively. Ndungutse said, “We have arranged for four training phases before the South Africa event.” The Rwandan team finished fifth at last year’s championship held in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
