The taxi ‘cat fight’

During one evening last week, as people hustled to get into a commuter taxi heading to Remera taxi park—to the shock of passengers—two women began exchange blows. It was more of like a wrestling match only that it wasn’t in a ring, but in a taxi.Before the taxi filled, there they were, two grown women cursing as they pulled each other’s hair, ears, noses and so on. They also couldn’t stop hurling insults at each other as if the more one abused the other, that maybe she’s ugly, the more the latter would get more hurt and maybe kill herself.It was a very shocking but interesting incident. Many had never seen angry women beat themselves up; maybe that’s why few people were interested in intervening in the disagreement to stop them from embarrassing themselves. Those who tried their best to separate them, were accredited highly for trying. One man warned, “an angry woman acts like a lioness whose cubs have been stolen or hurt by someone. Just mad.”“Come and save your bus windows!” shouted some men to the driver who had been standing outside waiting for the taxi to fill. He hurriedly came and entered the taxi and tried to stop the fight, which they did. However, within a matter of seconds, they went ahead for round two as tempers between the two flared as they hurled very harsh insults at each other.After having had enough of it, the driver ordered for the reprimanding of the two, which one of them couldn’t stand as she felt she didn’t have any more time to settle the matter and straight away held up her hand bag and stepped out the taxi.Lots of such fighting incidences happen in our society today, not only in taxis but also in homes, markets streets and so on. So in a bid to say no to such unnecessary ‘wars’ the most important lesson here is to encourage unity. Whether we fight or not, we still need each other to move forward as a society.
