EASTERN PROVINCE NYAGATARE — Umutara Polytechnic on Monday donated a consignment of over 779 text books to Nyagatare Secondary school. Prof. Terence Fogarty, the polytechnic Rector said the donation was part of their obligation of serving the community. The books are of different subjects; English, Mathematics, Geography, computing and general knowledge books. “Since one of our objectives is to serve the community, we have to start serving the neighbour schools. Nyagatare secondary is the nearest, so we had to start with it,” he said. Dr. Eugène Ndabaga Umutara Vice-Rector said that they are planning to donate other books to primary schools in the district. “We have primary school books we have sorted out, but have not decided the school we shall start with in the district,” Ndabaga said. Ndabaga expressed their readiness to serve the Nyagatare community by sharing knowledge with them. Forgarty said part of the books had been donated to them by different partners. The partners include World Vision, American embassy, Ministry of Education among others. In his remarks, Edward Kabare, the school headmaster said the donation had solved the problem of shortage of resource material at the school. “Since our school is a model school in the district, I am sure our students are going to benefit from these books, especially science students,” the headmaster said.
