Mafisango laid to rest in sombre ceremony

RWANDAN international Patrick Mutesa Mafisango was laid to rest on Sunday at Kinkole graveyard in Kinshasa in his native home country of DRC Congo in a sombre ceremony attended by thousands of mourners.According to sources, who attended the burial ceremony, Mafisango, who died in a horrible road accident in the early hours of Thursday morning, was extolled as a great footballer, who had inspired many upcoming football players.The 32-year old earned 23 caps at senior international level for Rwanda, scoring two goals. He also appeared in ten FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, and was in line to add to his tally of international caps next month when Amavubi play Algeria and Benin in the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers as well as Nigeria in the 2013 Nations Cup return leg qualifier.Amavubi honoured Mafisango in a 45 minute solemn event before their training session on Friday. The event was attended by officials from the ministry of sports, Ferwafa, Amavubi players and fans.Fefwafa pledged to honour the player by organising a charity match to acknowledge the role he played not only for the national team but also APR, where he had two successful spells and Atraco.Mafisango played for TP Mazembe, APR (2006-2007 and 2009-2010), Atraco (2007-2009) before moving to Tanzania where he played for Azam (2010-2011) and Simba (2011-2012).Mafisango is survived by a wife and three children who all attended the burial ceremony.
