A former local leader in Kacyiru sector in Kigali has been accused of illegally buying land belonging to a Genocide survivor identified as Eugenie Uwamariya.During a recent reconciliatory meeting conducted by local leaders in the area, Uwamariya insisted that she has the right to her family property despite being denounced by her step siblings.“I am a vulnerable orphan and it is very clear that local leaders had an intention of illegally grabbing my family property,” Uwamariya, who is currently a senior five technical student, said appealing for support to regain it.Cyrille Rugwizangoga, a former leader of Kamatamu Cell who is alleged to have connived with Uwamariya’s step brother to sell the piece of land however denied involvement.Uwamariya says that she inherited the land from her late father.Witnesses say that his brother, Ndeberabaje, was well aware that his father had another wife when he deliberately sold the piece of land, a claim he vehemently denies.“When the land was being sold, they said that if at all it emerged that Uwamariya was the owner, she would be considered as one of the family members,” said Anne Marrie Mukamusoni who was present at the time of selling the land.After hearing from several witnesses, it was decided that the wrangle should be solved amicably.
