The men’s national rugby team Silverbacks has received a big boost from Belvedere ahead of this year’s Confederation of African Rugby- CAR Super 16 tournament which runs from May 4-11 in Burundi’s capital, Bujumbura. According to Janvier Uwineza, the secretary general of the local rugby federation, Belvedere Bus Company has offered to transport the team to and from Bujumbura at no cost. To us, this is a huge boost because we are not very ok financially, the SG said. The team which has been under residential training since Tuesday is also said to have received financial support from the ministry of Sports and Culture. After DR Congo pulling out, Rwanda will contend with Burundi and Kibubu; a Belgian-based club at the week-long event. Over the last couple of years, Rwanda has had mixed performances in the competition. In 2006 and 2007, Rwanda finished third but silverbacks coach Gerard Nsenga remains optimistic ahead of this year’s event. Ends
