Editor,I have read many stories in The New Times about several youth-oriented development programmes designed to help them become better skilled and more responsible. I am a young person too, and I am certain that after school, armed with the necessary skills, I will be able to get a decent job, or create one for myself and possibly employ a couple of my compatriots, to contribute to the country’s development. It is, therefore, good news to hear that the government is committed to the empowerment of the youth, particularly to make them more innovative and productive. Young people do not only constitute the majority of the country’s population, but are also best positioned to develop their country than the older people. They have talents and enthusiasm that, if well tapped into, can go a long way in transforming the lives of Rwandans. The same applies to every African nation – the continent should learn to maximize the [potential of this most energetic and open-minded demographic group.Innocent KayitareNyagatare
