The Ministry in charge of Emergence Management (MINEMA) has received up to Rwf11 million through mobile money in less than 24 hours, from people eager to support the victims of floods and landslides in Western, Southern and Northern Provinces of Rwanda. ALSO READ: Floods: Number of deaths, injuries, destroyed houses slightly increase On Friday, as part of the response efforts to the disaster that killed 131 people and destroyed lots of infrastructure and property, MINEMA set in place channels through which well wishers can contribute money towards supporting the people who were affected. The channels include bank accounts in the National Bank of Rwanda (NBR) as well as mobile money numbers. We thank Rwandans for assisting their counterparts. We will continue to communicate the contributions we receive and try to thank the individuals who contribute,” Marie Solange Kayisire, the Minister in charge of Emergence Management told the media in a press conference on Saturday, May 6. ALSO READ: Rwanda sets up command centre to coordinate flood disaster interventions She also hinted on the possibility of easing the sending process for those who want to send money from abroad for the cause of supporting the victims of the disaster. She noted, for example, that the National Bank of Rwanda can be asked to remove the charges for people who want to send remittances from abroad if possible.
