RRA coach targets last eight 8 in CAVB championships

RWANDA Revenue Authority coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye has penciled in a quarterfinal berth as a realistic target for his team that left for Nairobi on Tuesday for the women Africa volleyball club championships that kicks off on Thursday.“This will be our second appearance at the continental championships and I believe the thorough preparations we had for the past few months will come in handy.The players are equally up to the task and want to improve on their performance,” Ndayikengurukiye told Times Sport before the team’s departure.Over 21 teams that include defending champions Kenya Prisons, Kenya Pipeline and Kenya Commercial Bank (Kenya), Rwanda Revenue Authority and APR (Rwanda), Les AS (Burundi), Nkumba University (Uganda) and Jeshi Stars (Tanzania), FAP, Foulon (Cameroon), Stellar (Ivory Coast), Blue Eagles (Nigeria), Manga Sports and Varieties (Gabon), Chlef from Algeria. DR Congo will be represented by Daring Club Motema Pemba and Canon Ndjini while Stef Auto (Madagascar), DGSP (Congo Brazzaville), Water Sports (Ethiopia) and Mafolofolo (Botswana) will also take part in the weeklong event.Prisons won the championships after beating archrivals Pipeline last year in the final at the Africa Nazarene University Gymnasium.Besides being crowned African champions, winners of the competition will qualify to represent Africa in FIVB World Clubs Championships to be staged in Qatar in August.The draws for the 21 teams that have confirmed participation will be conducted today.
