Marines out to stop Police’s title charge

MARINES coach Rajab Bizimurumreyi has sent a warning to title chasing Police Football Club that they are in for a tough ride when the two sides meet in the penultimate Primus league match on Saturday at Umuganda stadium.The Western Province side, which is 10th in the league with 23 points, have a top 7 target which requires them to win their last two matches and hope their opponents drop points.“Our target since the start of the season was to finish in the top half but a top 7 is realistic, but that means winning our next two games against Police and the derby against Etincelles.So Police should not expect any favours from us on Saturday,” stated Bizimurumreyi, who will be without first choice goalkeeper Ahmed Nshimiyimana. The Law Enforcers’ team have three difficult ties against Marines, Mukura and Isonga but only need two wins to win their first league title.In 2009, Atraco which later went out of business needed a win in their final match against Marines to beat rivals APR to the league title but Marines, which alongside APR is funded by the Ministry of Defence, held their own and the game ended goalless, a result that gifted APR the title.With stake so high in both the APR and Police camp, will the Musanze based side be motivated by the desire to help out their sister club?Until two weeks ago, Police led the table standing for longer periods and looked prime favourites to wrestle the crown from APR, who are seeking for a record 14th league title in 18 seasons.The defending champions lead the way with 49 points, two ahead of second-placed Police, who have however played a game less. That game is against Isonga Fc, which was controversially rescheduled on request from the youthful side that compose the national U-20 team.
