Private Sector embraces Imihigo

RUHANGO–Members of the Private Sector Federation (PSF) in the Southern Province on the weekend signed performance contracts commonly known as Imihigo setting targets to be achieved within a period of six months.The targets set out in the contracts range from service delivery, capacity building, advocacy, community outreach, infrastructure development to a more strengthened partnership between the public and private sectors. They also pledged to seek ways to attract more investors in their respective areas of operation.According to Francois Rutayisire, the PSF chairman in the Southern Province, the exercise will play a major role in facilitating the federation achieve its nationwide targets.“It is a way of improving the quality of what we are doing while taking less time to do it,” Rutayisire said.“When one commits oneself to targets and objectives, they make every effort to be successful. This will enhance productivity for the benefit of our members and the Rwandan population in general.”Jean Damascene Ntivuguruzwa, a representative of the PSF in Kamonyi district, said the contracts will improve their contributions towards the national development.He noted that since the Private sector plays an important role in the economic growth of any country worldwide, any increased efforts within the Federation will also benefit the population in general.“In Kamonyi, we have committed to building a rice processing factory worth 400 million francs in less than six months,” Ntivuguruzwa said.“Such initiatives result into job creation hence speeding up national development.”Speaking at the function, Ruhango District mayor Francois Xavier Mbabazi commended the initiative, noting that it will also help local leaders speed up the realisation of their performance contracts.He hailed the partnership between the government and the private sector, saying: “I am confident that together we will achieve our targets”.
