Editor,I read with shock a story in The New Times of yesterday under a headline “Billions lost in graft cases”. Unlawful diversion of funds cannot be tolerated in Rwanda.Government officials have on several occasions been warned against mismanaging public funds. Through the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Parliament looks determined to stamp out this vice. But other state organs will need to play their part as well, including justice, to ensure that the embezzled funds are recovered as soon as possible. In some cases, instead of using the money for the intended purpose, some institutions used it to fund other activities, in violation of standard procedures. It’s no secret that Rwanda maintains a zero tolerance to corruption policy; we just need to stay the course and ensure that such malpractices are brought to an end.Agnes BatetaKigali
