Kagere confident of title thrust

AFTER rivals APR faltered in their title campaign, Police and Amavubi striker Meddie Kagere is optimistic that his club now has a better chance to win its first Primus National Football league title.Police FC skipper Meddie Kagere, who is also their lead top scorer this season with 11 goals, said yesterday that his side will not easily lose grip of the Primus league title.“We don’t care whether APR win or lose. Our mind and soul is placed on winning the remaining matches. We all know we will only lift the league title after winning the four remaining mathes,”“I can guarantee you that my teammates have potential to do the needful. Our quest starts with Espoir in Rusizi over the weekend.”“We are all fit and have built a bond that can’t be broken easily. We love each other and work together, we have the same spirit that will help us to win the title,” added Kagere.Police, who are in second position with 44 points, two points behind leaders APR, are only required to win three matches against Espoir, Marines and Mukura to be declared champions for the first time in eleven years since the club, which was created in Rwamagana, earned promotion to the top flight league.The law enforcers would then go into their last game against Isonga on May 18 already declared champions, a feat which would break APR dominance for 17 years.APR have won the league title 12 times in 17 years, but their quest this season suffered many upsets, the latest being the 0-1 loss to Mukura on Wednesday.With two games left to the end of the season against SC Kiyovu and Nyanza, the military side will only need miracles to win the title.Police travels to Rusizi this morning ahead of the crucial Sunday clash.
