APR head to Mukura looking to extend lead

APR’s clash against Mukura at Kamena stadium will go a long way in determining the destiny of the title in a season that has seen the top spot change hands among the top three teams.APR, who are fresh from a comeback 3-2 triumph over archrivals Rayon Sports at the weekend face a fatigue-free Mukura, who have spent close to three weeks without action.Coach Ernie Brandts is optimistic ahead of today’s clash. He said, “Apart from St. Preux Lionnel who is suspended, the rest of the squad is fit and ready for the Wednesday’s game.”Without the Haiti-born striker, whose two goals in either half helped APR to last weekend’s win out, Burundian born international Selemani Ndikumana is expected to start against the Huye-based side.Mukura won the corresponding fixture at Kigali regional stadium 1-0 but somehow their season seems to have taken a backslide, a position that has left coach Godfrey Okoko with a few concerns.When contacted yesterday, Okoko said, “Sorry, I am very busy trying to prepare my team for the big match,” before he hang up.Mukura led the standing for a considerable period and looked to be in the race for the title but lost ground following a run of poor results in the second round.A win for APR today will take them five points clear of closest rival Police, who are still embroiled in the controversy surrounding their flopped match with Isonga FC.After Mukura, the champions face Kiyovu on May 6 and Nyanza on May 12.
