Guma Guma stars visit children with disabilities

On Thursday, 10 Primus Guma Guma contestants visited children living with disabilities in Huye and Nyanza Districts – Southern Province.The first stop-over was in Gatagara, where the stars greeted their fans – but Jay Polly seemed to be the crowd’s favourite. Aspiring rapper, Young Grace also managed to pull a crowd during her brief performance, before the trip resumed.On arrival to Fasha Gatagara Project, children with disabilities could not hide their excitement to meet their local music stars. The children interacted and rubbed shoulders with the Primus Guma Guma Superstar aspirants.During their visit at Fasha Gatagara Project, the artistes toured the classes, orthopedic centre and the dormitories.“We are very glad to host the Primus Guma Guma stars. We hope even other people and celebrities will be coming to visit us,” said, Frere Mubale Gregoire, Director of Fasha Gatagara Project.“If these stars could come all the way from Kigali to visit us, that means we are very important people. Most of these children think they were abandoned. But, today, a lot has changed and we now feel loved and cared for. I am so excited,” said Pierre Ntaho, a P.3 student at Fasha Gatagara, whose right leg is disabled.The artistes also visited another branch of the project located in Huye.“The purpose of this visit is to comfort and support these children with disabilities. Let them be excited and smile because they are very important people in the society,” said Jean Peirre Uwizeye, Primus and Heineken Brand manager.Primus donated 40 crates of soda and Rwf500, 000 to Fasha Gatagara Project.After, MC Tino took the stage and invited the artiste to perform and all the performances were spectacular. Dream Boyz, a Rwandan R&B duo composed of TMC and Platini, was the first to perform and entertained the children with their rendition of, Iteka ni teka, followed by Dannie in his famous song, Iri joro. King James sealed off the show with his single, Mbabarira, which prompted children at Fasha Gatagara to dance uncontrollably and proved to their guests that disability is not inability. This has not been the first time that Primus Guma Guma stars have participated in such charity activities. Recently, they visited Ntarama memorial site and gave assistance to 25 families of the survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. They are also expected to visit patients at University Central Hospital of Kigali (CHUK). Fasha Gatagara Project started in 2010 and supports 600 disabled children.
