The Kacyiru Court of Lower Instance on Monday adjourned the hearing of the case of the former executive secretary of Travaux d’Interêts Générales (TIG) in the Ministry of Justice. Presiding judge Felix Ndahingwa ruled that Emmanuel Twagirumukiza appears before the court today after getting a defense counsel. Ndahingwa said that the court gave Twagirumukiza two days to find a lawyer as ‘it is his right.’ Twagirumukiza was arrested last week and detained at Remera Police Station. He is facing corruption charges and other related cases. According to a source, Twagirumukiza is accused of using his truck to transport prisoners out to the field, which breaches tendering procedures in government institutions. Jean Bosco Mutangana the Prosecution Spokesman said: “We can’t go into the merits of the case now because the accused is still on pre-trial detention.” TIG is a community service programme which facilitates convicts to serve part of their sentences while outside prisons.Ends
