Miracle Corners of the World (MCW), a New York-based youth non-profit organisation, Monday honoured victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.MCW together with Genocide Prevention Education Program and Jacqueline Murekatete’s Human Rights Corner, held the event at New York University Law School to mark the 18th commemoration of the Genocide.Speaking at the event, Murekatete, an MCW fellow and founder of MCW’s Genocide Prevention Education Programme, called on the audience to “ensure that survivors’ stories are told and that the people who are denying the Genocide are challenged.“There are many ways you can take action. You can help survivors in Rwanda in need of services; you can support efforts to bring the people who committed the Genocide to be brought to justice; and you can spread the stories of survivors to others,” she told the gathering.The event attracted about 100 participants who included James Kimonyo, Rwanda’s Ambassador to the USA, representatives of the Permanent Mission of Rwanda to the UN, the Rwandan community living in New York and New Jersey, New York University students, lecturers and NGO representatives, among others.
