Victims commended for resistance efforts

All resistance groups that helped to defend their communities against the Interahamwe militias during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi will always be remembered, Jean de Dieu Mucyo, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG) said.“They were courageous, protective, resourceful and will always be remembered in our history,” said Mucyo.In an interview with The Sunday Times, Mucyo said that although the country was engulfed in fear, there were brave groups across the country that did not give up easily and staged resistance.One particular group, the resistance fighters of Bisesero, is renown in the country for organizing themselves against massacres by the Interahamwe militia. They were, however, mostly unsuccessful due to lack of weapons. “Although their resistance was mostly crushed, such courageous men saved many lives and gave some survivors hope for the next day, until finally when the whole country was liberated by RPF,” Mucyo said.“Rwandans must take heart and know that evil can be overcome.
