50 SMEs benefit from BCR training

Commercial Bank of Rwanda (BCR) yesterday launched a four day training programme to enhance the accounting skills of 50 participants drawn from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).The programme is organised as a public private partnership between BCR and German Development Cooperation (GIZ).“This is the fourth of a series of a four workshops that we expected to conduct and during the first three sessions, we have managed to train up to 140 participants, including some CEOs and accountants of SMEs, in the country in December,” BCR’s Managing Director, Sanjeev Anand explained. The programme seeks to enhance skills in topics like essentials of accounting, booking-keeping, financial reporting, cash flow management and tax return filing as well as submission of information to banks.The training is facilitated by experienced lecturers and banking practitioners including those from the lender. “These sessions will also improve proper book-keeping and ensure controls, better cash flow management and lower fraud risks hence reducing costs,” Anand noted. “The course enables participants to manage their businesses better with greater accountability skills.”BCR remains the leading SME bank in the country and through the training programme, increased leading opportunities will be created in the SME through various innovative products and services.“Going forward and to stimulate the quality of financial statements, BCR will invite SMEs to submit their financial statements which will be evaluated by group of panellists to vet the a quality and timeliness of their production. Winning SMEs will be awarded by the lender,” Anand noted.
