Inspired Kagere eyes PNFL title

POLICE FC and Amavubi prolific striker Meddie Kagere is keen on winning his second Primus National Football league title this season. He won the first with Atraco in 2006/7 season.After spending six years playing for Atraco, Mukura, Kiyovu and currently Police, Kagere has his mind set on this season’s league title.“Don’t ask me the top scorers accolade but ask me the league title. We (Police FC) are focused on maintaining our lead and winning the first league title for this club,” he told Times Sports.“I don’t care whether I score in every game or not, what is important is the league title and I believe we have what it takes to win it this season. We need to at least win our remaining matches,” added Kagere.The Uganda-born forward noted that Police don’t have any room for complacency. “In football, many crazy things can happen. We will try to win every game as it comes but it will not be a walk in the park.”Kagere, last year’s league top scorer, has scored ten goals this season to help Police Fc win 13 matches, draw five and lose twice to sit at the top of the league table standings with 44 points in 20 matches played this season.In their latest match, Police thrashed relegation battling side AS Kigali 2-0 courtesy of trademark strikes from Jacques Tuyisenge and Laudit Mavugo.However, the leaders have played two matches more than Mukura and three more than APR and Rayon Sports.If Goran Kuponovic’s side win their remaining matches against Isonga, Espoir, Marines and Mukura, then they will become the 4th club after APR, Rayon and now defunct Atraco to win the league.The league has been put on hold to pave way for the commemoration week of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi which begins on April 7.
