Why do zoo apes get heart disease?
The patient, a 25-year-old male named Dylan, is lying on a makeshift straw-bale bed. He has pads on his chest picking up his heart’s electrical activity. A tube down his throat is supplying him with anaesthetic gas and oxygen.
The team are working in partnership with vets at chimpanzee sanctuaries in Africa, including Dr Rebeca Atencia at Congo’s Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Centre. Net photo.
