Burundi’s financial and economic sector is undermined by the fall of production and economic impunity, an official of the Burundian Observatory for the Government’s Action (OAG) has said.“It is difficult to mobilize funds from international donors because of economic impunity characterized by corruption and embezzlements of public funds,” said OAG’s Vice-Chairlady Gertrude Kazoviyo while presenting the December 2011-March 2012 quarterly report on the government’s action. She said the budget financial support from international donors was “tremendously reduced” in the country’s 2012 national budget up to more than 50 percent. International partners reoriented their donations to support projects where they are sure of monitoring the aid, she said. “We recommend a strong fight against economic impunity to further Burundi’s economy,” she said.
