WAISTCOATS are back in vogue! From the time I knew how to spell my name; I have always been seeing waistcoats. Even though the waist coat trend was a man’s fashion, with time the revolution of fashion starting with women like Coco Channel, picked it up and feminized the whole outfit.Waistcoats were traditional formal wear for ages. In fact it was such an essential part of the formal suiting, but it was mostly common amongst the men’s formal wear. After Coco Channel opened the doors and revolutionized the fashion, women also started to wear waistcoats, but with obvious difference in the pattern and the style. In the recent past we have seen a very different version of the waistcoats being reinvented on the fashion runways by designers in a big way; I remember Michael Jackson’s embellished waistcoat made me fall in love with the style. Truth be told, if there is any fashion trend that has never really phased out, is the waistcoat; this shows how powerful this little accessory is in our fashionable world. Fast forward; this season we are seeing new versions, colours and mixtures of the waist coats that have never been seen before.Back in 2005 Sienna Miller was famously known for her boho style, she was scarcely seen without a waist coat - accessorizing hippy frocks, smock tops and t-shirts with her favourite denim waist coat. Now it seems Sienna is going back to her hippy roots and has dug out her faithful friend again. Women’s waistcoats have also become a fashion statement over the years. Whether one wants single breasted or double breasted; both styles are very popular and can be bought readymade or be tailor made, for as long as one gets a good tailor.Ladies should not be confused when it is time to wear a waistcoat, because whether it is formal wear or any other occasion for that matter, either way they always look great.Women’s waistcoats are made more exciting by the fact that they are available in a number of styles and varieties in terms of fabrics and patterns. The good thing with waistcoats’ styles is that, it does not matter what you are wearing, for as long you feel comfortable in it, and then one is good to go.Whether the waistcoat is striped, furred, embellished or in denim, they always look great.
