Diego Maradona’s lawyer has revealed that the Argentine will return to Naples next week in an attempt to clear his name over allegations of tax evasion.The World Cup winner has stayed away from Italy since being accused of owing the state an estimated €38 million in unpaid taxes arising from his seven-year spell with Napoli between 1984 and 1991.However, Maradona wants his legal issues resolved so that he can attend the club’s Coppa Italia final clash with Juventus in May and his lawyer, Angelo Pisani, has confirmed that the 51-year-old has now decided to return in order to prove that he is innocent of all charges.“I talked to him and can confirm he will be in town next week and I also promised him a warm welcome,” “I also proposed that he could salute Napoli fans at the San Paolo and watch the Coppa Italia final. He’d be very happy to do that and we are working on it.“On April 5 there will be a court hearing with regards to the tax bill. Maradona wants to clarify to the Neapolitans and all Italians that he is not a tax-dodger.“He was the victim of a sort of conspiracy, an injustice within justice. He wants to be at the hearing to represent the truth to the judges and prove he’s not running away.”Pisani also revealed that his client, who is currently coaching United Arab Emirates outfit Al Wasl, is also planning a treat for the fans who continue to idolise him.
