ALEX Sessanga, a renowned Ugandan promoter, is now Kayitare Waitare’s promoter.Waitare has spent almost ten years without a promoter.Known to his fans as Dembe, the Afrobeat star, who started his music career in 2000, was brought to fame by his 2003 track dubbed ‘Abana ba Africa’.Waitare told The New Times that the development brings him opportunities to take his music to the next level. “Like any other musician with a good promoter, I am sure that my future in music is bright given his (Sessanga) experience in this industry,” he said.“As part of this development, we are organising a music competition that will bring together musicians from Rwanda and Uganda,” said Kayitare, the boss of MCLO studio in Rwamagana and Nyagatare Districts, Eastern Province. He said that such and other competitions that will follow aim at bringing together musicians from the two countries to share experiences. In a related development, Waitare said that on Easter Day, he will perform in Kampala, alongside various Ugandan musicians including Lady Titi, a famous radio and TV presenter.Sessanga promises to ensure Waitare’s music crosses the borders.“Just like the way we do it in Uganda, through promoters, they (musicians) get many chances that include getting, or winning airtime on radio stations and this will be my first step in promoting Waitare,” he vowed. He noted that his decision to support the artiste was based on Waitare’s commitment that he proves through supporting upcoming musicians. “Rwandan music is on market here in Uganda, so it is possible to promote Kayitare, especially considering the quality of his music,” he added.
