Editor,It is good news to hear that Kenya Commercial Bank and the Société Rwandaise d´Assurances (SORAS) have jointly launched a home guarantee insurance product geared at helping address housing shortage in Rwanda.But what will be the category/quality of those houses? Who are their targeted clients? Is there any way they can plan low cost housing, which should be more affordable by the youth?EddieGasabo Editor,How could the initiators of the scheme say it’s designed to cater for the housing needs of low and middle income earners, while they are targeting people who earn at least Rwf1.8m a month? If that is the case, I don’t see any difference between this initiative and other the existing housing projects that target high-end buyers. Other than CEOs and other senior managers in big companies, no one else will be eligible to benefit from such a project. Jean Huye Editor,The launching of simplified trade regime (STR) at Rusumo border on March 16, 2012 was indeed an important achievement because the STR is now implemented at all borders between Rwanda and other EAC Partner States.The STR was implemented between Rwanda and Uganda in March 2010, and between Rwanda and Burundi, in July 2011. Small scale cross-border trade is one of the indications that people have greatly benefited from using this facility.At Rusumo, the Simplified Certificates of Origin used are obtained from Customs border offices, both in Rwanda and Tanzania; which are signed by customs officers on duty and are free of charge.
