On Rwandan air waves is a daily hitting old luganda song ‘yesu beera nange’ meaning Jesus be with me and never forsake me. The old rhythm is from a Ugandan gospel singer Judith Babirye Niiwo coming from the album named Yesu Beera Nanga, which was released in April 2005. As I was wondering why it does hit many Rwandan yet a few know luganda, someone told me that it was because of its worshipping rhyth-matic inspiration. “You feel the Holy Spirit coming down and touching you direct,” Daphine Abatoni explained. Stevenson Ngabirano, who has it in his mobile phone as a ring tone said the message it possesses brings a lot of inspirations in his daily spiritual growth. In fact, most of the songs by the artist are used as mobile phone ring tones by both Christians and Non-Christians in Rwanda. Truly, there is not doubt the song has seen successes for the inspirations it brings to many. Who is she? Babirye is a renowned preacher of the word of God and a celebrated Gospel artist. Currently, she pastors Celebrate Jesus Worship Center in Bukoto, Kampala, Uganda. She stormed the music scene in 2001 with Wambatira (protect me), Biyinzika (they are all possible) in 2003 and the ‘boom’ was released in 2005, which sold like a hot cake. This was followed by the last year’s release, Yesu Asobola (Jesus is able). Many listeners love the song because of its words, and the way it appeals to any of the situations they find themselves in. The amazing thing is that unlike her other albums, the Yesu Beera Nange album has even attracted Muslims and you often find a Muslim confessing that, “I love her music especially this of Jesus be with me and never forsake me.” In Yesu Beera Nange, the title track on the six-track album, Pr. Babirye asks Jesus to be with her when she is being tossed about in the storm of life. She says it was composed when she was pregnant with her first child. Omusayi Gwa Yesu (blood of Jesus), invites the listener into the presence of God where they can find cleansing, healing and freedom, while Olimpa Engule (You will crown me) talks about the crown that awaits those that patiently wait for God.
