Sensitisation on health issues intensifies

Health:Massive public participationThe public will now be more conversant and educated on issues related to health, as plans are underway to hold frequent health awareness shows.This began yesterday at Telecom House when Rwanda Biomedical Centre held their first interactive live talk show, on radio and Television where the public asked questions and commented on health related issues. According to Dr. Claver Kayumba, the acting Director General of Rwanda Biomedical Centre, it was the first time they held such a programme but that they hoped to continue with it so the public can be educated on health issues and the services delivered by the health sector.“Our first show focused on infectious diseases that mostly affect women. This was because this month is dedicated to women and girls in Rwanda. The public massively participated and had a number of their questions answered,” Dr Kayumba said.He added that next week’s show but will focus on service delivery in health facilities, where medics from various health facilities will be invited so the public can be able to address their questions to them.Rwanda Biomedical Centre was set up last year ahealth-related agencies, some of which include Trac Plus, Health Communications Centre and AIDS Control Commissions among many others.
