RTUC holds beauty pageant

Rwanda Tourism College University (RTUC), Friday held its second beauty contest where Raoul Mugwaneza and Elisabeth Ibyishaka were crowned Mr. and Miss RTUC 2012 respectively.The two walked away with an assortment of Sulfo Rwanda products and Rwf 400,000 cash prize.Mugwaneza, a Hotel and Restaurant Management student could not hide his excitement.“It is a surprise that I have managed to shine among others. And to be honest, this was too far from my expectations,” he said. Ibyishaka did not sound any different from Mugwaneza: “I will encourage team work and promote our country”.Bona Uwineza and Yves Nkundabagenzi emerged first runner-up and received Rwf 300,000 each while Francis Mugwaneza and Anny Rwirangira were announced second runner-up, and each walked away with Rwf 200,000.The event that was presided over by the Minister of Sports and Culture, Protais Mitali, was held at Sports view hotel in Remera.In his speech, the minister congratulated all the contestants, especially winners, advising them to take part in similar competitions beyond their school. “I am grateful to parents who give their children a chance to take part in these competitions and to you (students), it’s your turn to prove that you can build on what you have,” he said.During the event, RTUC recognized best performers in academic and sports disciplines as well as companies that contributed to the success of the event including media houses. The school’s legal representative, Zulphat Mukarubega, congratulated and recognized the Rector, Callixte Kabera, for his hard work in leading the university. The event was held under the theme, “Building successful skills and customer care to boost business in Rwanda.”“As a school offering tourism courses we are determined to lead and bring a change in the way services are provided in this country, considering the effects of poor customer care to any economy,” Kabera said. The event was graced by various musicians including Passy, Knowless, King James and Kamishi among others.
