Adventists launch Rwf5bn construction projects

Kigali City will soon be host to a new university, The Seventh Day Adventist Church will expand the Adventist University of Central Africa (AUCA) and also construct its national headquarters in downtown Kigali. Both projects are set to be completed by next year at a total cost of Rwf5 billion.Prime Minister Dr Pierre Damien Habumuremyi and the President of the World Seventh Day Adventist Church (General Conference), Elder Ted C. Wilson, laid the foundation stone at the site of the new faculty in Gishushu, Remera.Wilson said the university will help advance technology in the country.“The establishment of this university is important and it’s for all Rwandans, not only those who are Adventists. We hope that it will help advance God’s work in technology,” he said.Wilson commended the existing relationship between the church and the government adding that his church will continue cementing the partnership.“I have travelled around the world and have discovered that the Rwandan government has shown interest in development of our church, not only as evidenced by the presence of government officials here, but also in different church activities. We are grateful for the support,” he said. The Premier hailed the church’s development activities pledging that the government is ready to continue extending support to it.“The government of Rwanda appreciates all the Adventist church programmes in the country, especially those in the education sector, health as well as preparing hearts of people to be good citizens,” he noted.Habumuremyi said that the new academic institution fits well into government policy of advancing technology, adding that the campus had come at the right time and that it will help spur development.The AUCA already has another campus in Masoro, Gasabo District.Today the Prime Minister will join the Adventist head and church members in prayer service at Amahoro National Stadium.
