Semi-finals: St. Joseph 0-5 APADE Kicukiro G.S Ndera 0-7 ESI NyamiramboFinals: APADE Kicukiro 17-0 ESI Nyamirambo APADE Kicukiro secondary school triumphed won the Buffaloes Sevens schools’ tournament after defeating Esi Nyamirambo 17-0 at the weekend. The tourney held on Sunday 26th at Muhanga stadium and attracted eight schools from Kigali and Gitarama in a one-day tournament organised by Buffalo Rugby Club. The event was sponsored by the Buffalos Rugby Club in conjunction with Friends of Rwandan Rugby (FoRR) and is aimed at promoting rugby in schools. The tense final match between Apede and Esi-Nyamirambo raised attention of spectators as they presented strong upcoming talents and made victory which spectators considered a shock among renowned players and teams, while officials said “it was a sign of development of the rugby game in Rwanda emerged with a trophy and the game”. Both Paul Oga, the Rugby federation official and Gerald Nsenga, the chairman of Buffalo Rugby Club described the event display of talent and a sign that rugby in Rwanda is taking another step forward. “The games have been very exciting and new talents sighted. This is a sign that rugby is developing and this tournament is aimed at promoting new talents” . Nsenga lauded the Friends of Rwandan Rugby for the support in promoting rugby countrywide and organizing the event and said that “the performance of all teams was impressive especially Apade- which is a new team in the competition and the future of rugby in schools was promising. Juma Mugabo, captain of St. Josephs was named the “Player of the Tournament”, while the runner up and third position teams were also awarded with balls. There was also a tournament for the under-14 teams also played warm up matches and youngster-Aristide Twambaje led the Mountain Gorillas to thump St. Joseph in two straight games. The ‘Gorillas’ are also set to leave for training in London soon. Ends
