A countrywide survey that may see an improvement in the efficiency of agricultural production is about to be completed, officials have said. The study comes when government is promoting commercial agriculture farming. However the statisticians have said the data is outdated and was last updated in the 1970s. To be relevant, to the current development in the country and the world, the researchers are studying how people currently produce food. They are also studying, among others people’s feeding habits, the crop fields and how much is harvested from them. At least 10,800 households are involved in the production of foodstuff; livestock, honey, fish and forestry are to be sampled. Jean Philippe Gatarayiha, the Research Director, National Institute of Statistics (NIS) said Ministry of Agriculture requested the institute to carry out the study for better planning. The report will be released for use soon. Ends
