Most people were anticipating the 14th of February, but why? Some may say, well its Valentine’s day! It is supposed to be a day celebrated by lovers, but is it really? For the bored lady, it’s that day for chocolates and flowers that she doesn’t really care for; for the men, it’s that day again, where he always seems to find himself lost in thought; an unfamiliar territory by the way -over what to get for the missus. Regardless of the true origin of this practice, it really is rather daft to act extraordinaire towards the one you claim to love only on the 14th of February!Think about it, what happens to all the other days, like everyday? Women, how about last week when he totally forgot to take you shopping for your sister’s wedding present? When he goes on his random business trips he practically takes an oath to call and doesn’t do so in ages, and then when you call he answers your missed call 24 hours later! Come on. Wasn’t there a night he came home in a drunken stupor a month after he had promised to quit the horrid stuff? Kudos to his skills!Now let’s try the she part. The only time she seems interested in whatever it is you are going on about is that time of the month when your monthly cheque comes through and she is certain you are going to do something real fancy for her. On Valentines Day however, she will probably give you some insignificant gift and you will buy her the habitual rose, a card maybe and undoubtedly a box of chocolates that’s going to get her calories up the scale. And so it goes on, year after year...Now that Valentine’s has passed and all the surprises are gone, what next? The day stirs up some very strong feelings-not just of romance but of big business as well, trust our ever-growing society to try and rip us off in anyway they can. From the adverts on any renowned media to the taxi guy, they all try to lure us into spending more for seemingly less, and brethren, we in most absurd cases fall for it. So much for brain activity in humans!Well, businesses go back to usual and celebrate the free money they got. But what about couples and relationships? Do they go back to the same old boring routine with only the hope of the next Valentine’s Day (if they make it there) pulling them through? That is what happens when something that should happen every day of the year only surfaces once! It is supposed to be celebrated everyday, I say. Seriously, February 14th is merely a day on which anxious romantics around the world await to be told, in one way or another, “I love you” like it can’t be said on the 7th too! I think it almost lunacy for any normal being to make such ado over just one day, you can show and tell someone you love them on any day, just be there when they need you………
