The Rwanda Natural Resources Authority (RNRA) has embarked on a project to put in place a Water Resource master plan. This was announced by the Deputy Director General of RNRA, Vincent de Paul Kabalisa, during an interview with The New Times this week. “Water is a highly valued natural resource that influences a nation’s economy…we want to come up with a resource plan which will enable us carry out better distribution,” Kabalisa said.The master plan will cost around Rwf1 billion to develop and will be funded by government, he said.He added that the plan will be completed in the next 18 months, noting that it will enable distribution channels of water resources within the next 20 years.Kabalisa observed that due to lack of a plan, there was a challenge of water resource allocation to institutions, which has led to uneven distribution.He said currently RNRA uses simple methods to collect data regarding water resource management but that the master plan will improve their performance.
