The Independent Electoral Commission of Gambia has introduced new procedures for the coming parliamentary election which is slated for March 29 ,2012, an official said on Thursday.The new procedures such as counting on spot at the various polling stations, and number of voters to nominate the eligible candidates that has been reduced from on thousand to three hundred are part of plans to ensure that the election is transparent and would also improve the work of the commission. “We embarked on a nationwide tour in order to meet with the governors of the 7 administrative regions, community elders, and the religious leaders ahead of the parliamentary election to make sure that every thing is on the right track, so that there will be no problem,” the commission chairman Alhagie Mustapha L Carayol told Xinhua on Thursday. “Aspiring candidates most obtain 300 eligible voters to nominate him or her in his constituency,” Carayol said.
