Religious leaders in HIV/Aids drive

Religious leaders from Kicukiro District have called on Rwandans, especially the youth, to play a key role in fighting HIV/Aids and other pandemics.The call was made, over the weekend, by Pastor Joas Mukiza, the head of the Anglican Church in Kicukiro Centre, during an anti-HIV/Aids campaign at Integrated Polytechnic Regional centre (IPRC) Kigali.The function was organised by the Rwanda Interfaith Network against HIV/Aids (RCLS).“HIV/Aids is one of the major challenges that our country is still facing. As God’s servants, it’s imperative to join our efforts to combat the disease because a healthy soul should live in a healthy body as the Bible says,” Mukiza underscored.In an interview with The New Times, the head of Kicukiro Centre Mosque, Sheikh Afrika Mohammed, said they would continue to sensitise Muslims on preventive measures.District Police Commander (DPC) of Kicukiro District, Supt Innocent Semigabo, urged the youth to always inform security authorities about drug dealers, saying young people are the most affected by the proliferation of narcotics.At the event, over 200 people voluntarily tested for HIV/Aids.
