GATSIBO – Bihinga Secondary School in Kabarore sector, on Friday, donated 20 goats to needy students at the school.The donation, according to the school management, was done to assist needy students get out of poverty by accessing school fees and other domestic needs. The school handed the donations to parents on behalf of their children.Speaking to the Sunday Times, Oliver Mbabazi, the school Head Teacher, said the beneficiaries were selected from needy families who were identified under the Ubudehe (a traditional Kinyarwnda word that defines the collective effort employed towards solving social problems) programme.“We tasked a committee of teachers and parents to select needy students at the school. Those who were selected are students who mostly fail to get tuition fees and other scholastic materials. The school manages to allocate its little resources to see that these needy students fit in the society,” she said.Saveline Bihutakuvuga, one of the parents who received a goat on behalf of her child, commended the school management for its humanitarian actions.“I can’t express my gratitude to the school management. I had nothing at home, but this donation will help solve domestic issues,” she said.Mbabazi urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the goats and requested them to pass on their offsprings to other needy students.
