Rwanda-India strengthen bilateral ties

Rwanda and India yesterday signed various Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The MoUs were signed by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Louise Mushikiwabo, and India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Preneet Kaur. The pacts will see Rwanda and India establish a Joint Permanent Commission on renewable energy cooperation and solar electrification of 35 schools. “The signing of these MoUs shows a symbolic work relationship between the two countries. There are many potential sectors in which Rwanda and India’s business community can be interested to invest in,” Mushikiwabo pointed out. 2011 was a remarkable development in relations between both countries marked by private and public sector projects in education, health, science, technology, SMEs and infrastructure. Mushikiwabo further noted that the ties between the two nations were founded on quality and substance. On her part, Kaur reflected on the rapid development in the relations between the two countries, revealing that the signing of the agreements demonstrated India’s commitment to also work with the Rwandan private sector. “India values Rwanda as a stable and growing country for investment,” Kaur stated. On the final day of her two day visit, Kaur, also visited the Gisozi Memorial Site to pay tribute to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
