Rwandair Express is to acquire a Boeing 737-300 to replace the Boeing 737-200, grounded at Kigali International Airport due to mechanical problems, a top airline official said. The chairman of Rwandair Express, Gerald Zirimwabagabo however did not specify when the aircraft will be acquired. The plane was recently stopped from flying to Johannesburg, one of the lucrative routes because it could not meet the requisite mechanical standards. The poor state of the aircraft used to cause delays and sometimes flights could be cancelled to the chagrin of the traveling public. Currently Rwandair passengers are booked on South African Airways and Kenya Airways. The airline has since suspended the code sharing arrangement with Kenya Airways on the Kigali-Nairobi-Kigali routes. When contacted, Kenya Airways management in Kigali could not comment, saying they are sorting out something with Rwandair before they communicate to the public.Ends
