NYAGATARE - Police in Nyagatare District have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly counterfeiting money. According to Police, Emmanuel Nsengiyumva, was arrested on Monday with Rwf 350,000 in fake notes and Ugandan currency worth Sh 20,000. He was arrested in Nyamiyonga Cell, Musheri Sector, after a tip off from residents.Police spokesman, Supt. Theos Badege thanked residents for their vigilance and support in fighting against crime.“Counterfeiting is a serious crime that destabilises the country’s economy,” he stated, adding that scores of people had been arrested over counterfeit money countrywide.Speaking to The New Times, local residents said the suspect was first arrested in August last year over the same offence but later released.“We have been suspecting this man for a long time. We were wondering how prosecution decided to release him after he was arrested over the same crime,” noted one of the residents.Jonas Karangwa, a 15-year-old boy who is the suspect’s housemate said: “His room was always locked. He could not even allow me to peep inside.”
