New trendy club adds to Kigali’s growing nightlife

This was one of those unique nights filled with excitement, great music and performances as well as free drinks. On February 3, a swanky new nightclub “K-Club” was officially launched by the Minister of Sports and Culture, Protais Mitali, before hundreds of guests that included high ranking public officials and diplomats.“I’m quit impressed by K-Club, a top state of the art night spot in Rwanda. This is a gate way of making night life experience in Rwanda the best,” Mitali noted. “The basis and mission is to encourage a further acceleration of the 24hour economy that this government has always advocated for geared to giving service not only through music and tourism but at the end of a day, enjoy our country and its beautiful heritage.”The Minister said that the facility will be a focal point to promote and expose Rwandan artistes and their music and professionalise the entire industry.“The facility will go ahead to cater for a wide range of cultures and heritages where we shall have particular theme nights that will transcend the Rwandan culture hence giving diversity and appreciation of people and their lifestyle across the world an opportunity to showcase in Rwanda,” Mitali added.The discotheque designed to attract Kigali’s A-listers, is located in a new multi-million business complex known as Brima Business Centre (BBC), which consists of Woodland Supermarket, Brima Beauty Centre that has a unisex salon, massage parlours, in the upscale estate of Gaculiro. Inside, the lighting is timed to mimic the beat of music played by a DJ on a huge stage, with various screens for all kinds of videos to keep the tempo going. Speaking to The New Times ahead of the launch, the proprietor of the complex Emile Mulego, said that Rwanda is a fast developing country with a fast growing economy. “We invested heavily in importing most of the equipment, renovation of the building and the artistic design of the club to give it a new look that will make our customers enjoy quality products and services worth the value of their money.“I never compromise on quality, like they say in Kinyarwanda-- ‘Kugenda bitera kumenya’. A person who has travelled sees a lot of things. I have been to London, New York, Nairobi and Kampala and through this process; I was able to pick on some of the things I saw there.” “My vision was based on this need to provide a one-stop centre where one can have first class services that cannot be found anywhere else in the country hereby encouraging the Diaspora community to come back and invest in different sectors hence creating more job opportunities and adding to tax and revenue generation to the government,” Mulego noted. The club also boasts of two unique ultra modern bars and two dance floors, as well as cosy lounges that offer high quality comfort and relaxation to clients. K-Club has colourful decor and high quality lighting that changes with the night’s theme as well as standard sound proofing.“Our target clients are middle class and above. You don’t want an expatriate or investor to come and fail to get a quality place to hang out,” Mulego added.Henry M. However, I wish the management considers expanding it because it is small,” Agnes Uwera commented.The launch was spiced by performances from Canada-based Rwandan artiste, Frankie Joe and Ugandan songbird Jackie Chandiru.Frankie Joe particularly left the crowd begging for more at the end of his brief performance amid shouts of “We want more. We want more!” He pulled a powerful performance of his favourite numbers including “Kipenda roho” featuring Kenya-based Burundian singer Kidumu.Conversely, the former Blu3 songstress Chandiru did not disappoint either as she put up a great show and wowed the crowd with her renditions of “Gold Digger” and “Agassi”. She also performed her collaboration with Rwanda’s Urban Boys and some tracks of the Blu3.Her electrifying performance elicited positive comments from the audience. Throughout their separate performances the crowd could not help but sway and dance along.The other highlight of the gala was the awarding of those smartly dressed in Black and White, and a raffle for business cards. The lucky guests walked away with shopping vouchers, as well as the K-Club and saloon membership cards.
