Among the many reasons as to why I love fashion, is the fact that you can never wait for anything for too long before it’s back on the fashion runways. Many years ago there were shoes that I loved so much because they are very comfortable; thanks to fashion evolution, I saw them on the fashion runway during the Paris fashion week. These shoes are called mules; they derive their name from the French. It is usually a style of shoe that is backless and most often closed at the toes. These shoes can be of any height and are predominantly worn by women, even though there a few mules by famous designers that are made for men. Mules for men are favoured in some countries like Senegal, where they have incorporated the mules as their must have shoes when wearing their traditional clothes. For obvious reasons I seem to love my mules very much. I bought a pair in Nairobi in a second-hand market and I must say they are very comfortable. These types of shoes are lovable because they are easy to slip on and off. They also come in different styles. There is a wide range of mule styles these days unlike in the nineties. We have seen the dainty, pointy-toe or clunky mules. What I like about the mules is their versatility; depending on your office rules they can be worn on any official day going to the office, or they can also be worn casually on a weekend. Also when attending a function, when dressed in a boubou or traditional Mushanana, high heeled mules can complete the look.My favourite way of wearing mules is with long trousers, or longer skirts - but thinner-heeled mules can also look great with shorter skirts.Mules can also be paired with jeans and t-shirts. On a holiday, mules can be the ideal pair of shoes to carry along because this is a time when someone wants to relax, and flat mules can offer just that for any tired feet. When choosing to buy your mules, the main thing a person should ensure is buying the right size. These are not shoes that will look good if they are a little too small –or too big. When trying on a mule make sure the heel does not hang over the back edge or the sides of the shoe. Stand and walk around in the shoes you are considering to buy to make sure they fit properly. You don’t want to look like you have borrowed the shoes. These days’ mules can be in form of clogs, high heels, kitten heels and even as gladiator sandals. Whichever design or colour that one chooses, just make sure that you have at least a pair in your shoe collection to belong in the world of fashionistas.
