U-17 Caf fixture postponed

Rwanda’s U-17 African Youth Championship first leg qualifier against Kenya has been postponed to April 15. The game has been pushed forward again after the Kenyan junior team failed to acquire flight connections to Rwanda ahead of the tie which was due tomorrow. The Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa told Times Sport yesterday that KFF wrote a letter informing them of the delay. “We have then agreed to have the Caf fixture played on Tuesday with their arrival expected on Monday,” Kalisa said. Initially the Caf fixture was postponed due to the national Genocide Commemoration period for the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Rwanda faces Kenya in the first leg of the preliminary round of the 8th edition of the African Youth U-17 championship whose finals are scheduled or next year in Algeria. The winner between Kenya and Rwanda will face Sudan in the first round of the qualifiers on August 29-30. At the last edition, the team, which was coached by Aloys Kanamugire, knocked out Somalia 3-0 on goals aggregate in the first round before bowing out of the continental championships at the hands of Nigeria who went to win the title. Meanwhile, Nigeria, Tunisia, Ghana, South Africa, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Zambia, Angola, Cameroon, Gambia, Guinea, Benin, Botswana, Sudan and Libya have all landed byes to the second round.
