The game was pushed forward due to the national Genocide Commemoration period for the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Rwanda faces Kenya in the first leg of the preliminary round of the 8th edition of the African Youth U-17 championship whose finals are scheduled or next year in Algeria. Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa told Times Sport yesterday, We talked to CAF requesting for the U-17 fixture to be postponed due to the Genocide mourning period and we were given a positive response. The youth side is being handled by Michael Weiss and assisted Yves Rwasamanzi. The final squad will be named this week. The winner between Kenya and Rwanda will face Sudan in the first round of the qualifiers on August 29-30. At the last edition, the team, which was coached by Aloys Kanamugire knocked out Somalia 3-0 on goals aggregate in the first round before bowing out of the continental championships at the hands of Nigeria who went to win the title. Nigeria beat Togo 1-0 in the finals. Meanwhile, Nigeria, Tunisia, Ghana, South Africa, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Zambia, Angola, Cameroon, Gambia, Guinea, Benin, Botswana, Sudan and Libya have all landed byes to the second round.
