NORTHERN PROVINCE GICUMBI — Senator Jean Baptiste Bizimana has warned residents of Bicumbi who still posses Genocide ideology saying government will not tolerate them. Bizimana was speaking at the 14th anniversary to commemorate the Rwandan Genocide held at district level in Muko Sector of Gicumbi district. Bizimana said, “If the former leadership taught unity among Rwandans, Genocide would not have happened.” He called for quick compensation of Genocide Survivors and providing them with shelter and land. In attendance was also the Mayor of Gicumbi district Bonane Nyangezi, the IBUKA district representative Jeanne d’Arc Mukamana, representative of Governor of Northern Province David Nkurunziza. Nkurunziza assured those present that people possessing Genocide ideology have no power to bring back Genocide again. “Those who stopped Genocide in Rwanda are still there and ready to defeat whoever wants to return it,” he said. In his key note address, Mayor Nyangezi said that the district has so far constructed 72 houses for Genocide survivors and conducted decent burial of 1478 Genocide victims in Genocide memorial sites. He further said that Genocide survivors in the district are engaged in income generating cooperatives such as raring of rabbits and livestock farming. He also said, “Killing your neighbor on ethnic grounds is bringing a curse onto your family”, he told residents of Gicumbi. IBUKA’s representative Mukamana requested local leaders and residents of Gicumbi to maintain Genocide memorial sites and continue providing information regarding other Genocide victims remains so that they are given a decent burial. The event was marked by a 10 kilometer walk from the spot where five Genocide victims’ remains were discovered to Muko Primary school, where the Genocide commemoration ceremony took place. Ends
