Police open to Kagere exit

POLICE Football Club have re-affirmed they will not stand in Meddie Kagere’s way as long as an interested club matches their asking fee. Last year’s Peace Cup finalists have put a Rwf27m price tag on the striker who has become a regular in the national team (Amavubi). The club president Alphonse Katarebe told Times Sport yesterday that they are ready to let Kagere go for the right fee. “He is still our player and whoever is interested in him is free to come and talk to the club. I have heard reports that Gor Mahia and St.George are interested in the player but we are yet to have formal talks with their representatives,” Katarebe said. Early this week, Gor Mahia’s Secretary General Ronald Ngala conceded that the deal to sign the player had fallen through. “It’s a pity we can’t bring Kagere to our club. He is a great player but we simply can’t afford him. Police want Rwf27m (approx. Ksh4m) and if you add his registration fees, wages and bonuses, it becomes a very huge commitment for the club,” Ngala was quoted as saying. The Kenyan champions have since signed former Tusker FC hit-man George Midenyo and are on the verge of sealing a deal with Sony Sugar’s big striker Hugo Nzangu Nzoka. Kagere made his mark during last year’s Cecafa Challenge Cup in Dar es Salaam after finishing as joint-top scorer with five goals.
